LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Parents & Families,

Finding a camp is easy. Finding the right camp is a bit more complicated, and we’re grateful that you are considering Skyland Camp for Girls.

We love having conversations with families like yours as you learn what makes each camp unique and begin to narrow them down to find the perfect environment for your daughter.

What should you think about as you consider whether Skyland is that special place?

    • Skyland campers return year after year. Campers return home after their first summer at Skyland already planning to become counselors-in-training and, someday, counselors. So if you’re looking for a place your daughter will connect with and return to summer after summer, Skyland probably is for her. Skyland becomes a second home for most of our campers, a place they visit each summer throughout their adolescence—and into adulthood.
    • Skyland campers are surrounded by people who support them. Campers often reflect that their counselors, the staff, and their peers at camp are some of the most influential people in their lives. They’re present as campers learn how to manage their new independence, break through to deeper levels of friendship, and move forward if at first they don’t succeed at an activity. Skyland becomes part of that proverbial “village” it takes to raise a child.
    • Skyland campers grow to embody our core values. We see it every season.  Throughout the summer, campers grow into their own extraordinary potential. They build confidence through independent experiences while they build connections with each other and to the world around them. These qualities last. At Skyland, our goal is for each camper who “graduates” from her time here to create that environment in other parts of her life.

So take your time. Look through our resources to see whether Skyland might be that “just right” camp for your daughter. If you have questions or want to talk about camp, give us a call. We’re here to support you in your search.

Sincerely,

Wendy Burns,  Skyland Camp for Girls Director
